SOLO DOLO TEE – INSPIRED BY KID CUDI

One of Kid Cudi’s undeniable influences on music came from his disregard of the hip hop status quo. While many artists took steps to blend genres together, Kid Cudi took his own path, almost oblivious to existing expectations in the industry. He wasn’t a singer but that didn’t stop him from singing and when people criticized him for his personal and introspective lyrics, he ignored the negativity and used it as fuel to believe in himself. Simply not a hip hop artist dipping into new territory, Cudi’s sound came together with a plethora of influences and samples including Paul Simon, LCD Soundsystem and production from Ratatat.

He has also been inspiring in his personal journey; an exemplification of The American Dream for a new generation. Kid Cudi made his way from Cleveland to New York City with no guarantees and worked his way from retail jobs in Soho to the collective consciousness of music-lovers around the world.

This design, for the entitled ‘The Teachers collection’ is inspired by Cudi’s alter ego Mr. Solo Dolo and the inventive and sometimes brooding lyrics that are associated with him. Within the picture the letters that make up the words “Solo Dolo” to create the imagined face of the roguish character. The design say Handsome, ‘is an ode to all people closing the gap between their humble beginnings of isolated efforts and their dreams’.

Other artists to feature in The Teachers Collection include ‘The Beach boys’ (Profile picture) ‘Daft Punk’ with the 909 sweatshirt and the Bowie inspired ‘Heroes’ tee – some seriously great looking tees and other street wear is available from their excellent online store Handsome clothing
