2011 ROUND UP – TIMBER’S YEAR

Well what can I say, another year has almost drawn to a close and with it 12 months of amazing music. We’ve had high’s and low’s, thrill’s and spills, but none the less it’s been a hell of a year…

This is the year that we saw a post hardcore front man become the crown prince of dubstep, we lost some of music’s brightest stars (RIP DJ Mehdi, Gill Scott-Heron & the original don Mr. Jimmy Saville) and bass music rocketed into the collective conscious of the nation as both DJ Fresh & Nero secured the covered #1 spot.
Steve Angelo got caught miming, Justin Biebers balls dropped, Korn came out of retirement and Pete tong had to get a restraining order placed on Shara Nelson of Massive Attack after she claimed to be his secret wife…

2011 was an interesting year for me personally also, it saw the start of another musical adventure in the way of joining the Superfy Family which through many influences saw me say goodbye to Drum & Bass and embrace a wider spectrum of music in my club sets that showcases the very best in UK Bass.
With 2012 fast approaching, and my label, Mugen Audio Recordings due to release it’s first ever track in the new year, I can only hope that next year bring as much excitement and change as the last.

So in no particular order here are some of my highlights from the year that was, and those to watch for the year to come…

Deadboy – Wish U Were Here [Numbers]

Spectr – Dance 4 Me [RKS]

Arkist + Kidkut – One Year Later [Hot Flush]

Damu – L.O.V.E [Keysound]

Star Slinger – Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins Rework) [White]

Mosca – Bax [Numbers]

Joe Goddard Feat. Valentina – Gabriel (Seiji Remix) [Greco-Roman]

Scuba – Never [Hot Flush]

Rustie – Surph [Warp Records]

Bwana – Baby, Let Me Finish [White]

Dusty Kid – Chentu Mizas [Boxer Recordings]

Wishing everyone a happy, safe and enjoyable Christmas + New Year.

Stay Safe!

2011 ROUND UP – PASQUALE’S YEAR

Well what a crazy ass year we’ve had. Dubstep went back underground (Well the real stuff did…) I rediscovered house music.. (Or house music got good again….) We lost one of dance music’s finest (R.I.P. DJ Medhi) & Disco edits crashed into specific bar sets I performed with my good friend Sleazy Wonder.

Here’s my take on the records that rocked my world in 2011… (In NO particular order)

DeadBoy – Here 4 U

Lil Silva – Seasons

Sbtrkt – Wildfire

Jon Convex – Convexations

Jamie XX – Far Nearer

Untold – Cool Story Bro

Huxley – Shower Scene

Gonzales – Knight Moves (Lone Mix)

Jacques Greene – Lay It Down

Virgo Four – It’s A Crime (Hunee Mixes)

Scuba – Adrenalin EP (All tracks are killers!)

Addison Groove – This Is It / Make Em Bounce

Xxxy – Kerpow

Blawan – Vibe Decorium

A1 Bassline – Falsehood

Justin Martin & Ardalan – LEZGO

Ben Westbeech – Something for the weekend – Breach Mix

There are so many more records from 2011, but I could literally be here all day.

So onto 2012, and my take on who I’ll be following. Some of the following may not be fresh to the scene, but acts i’ve discovered throughout the year…. I’ve attached the artists Soundcloud so you can check em out.

2011 has been another amazing year for the underground music. weather that be House, Future Garage, post Dubstep (What people label it as. I call it new music, and its bloomin brilliant!

I’ve been out to some ridiculous places as well this year. Warehouse Project Storer Street Car park tops the  venues I’ve visited. Greg Wilson at Bestival was a big DJ Set Highlight. Chic ‘Live’ at the Warehouse Project were amazing! Kasabien at Nottigham Trent arena. The Detonate Indoor Festival at Rock City, Stealth & Rescue Rooms was one of the most impressive gigs I’ve ever done, and been involved with…

The list is endless….. Roll on 2012!!

SUPERFLY WEEKEND ROUND-UP: 3RD – 5TH DEC 2011

Welcome to the first Superfly weekend round up for December!

All the fun filled thrills and spills you’ve come to expect from Leicester’s #1 independent clubbing institution.

After the success of last week’s impromtu friday night house session coutesy of duo 115, the boys returned for a slightly more organized affair – this time joined by save the pony head honcho’s Twon & Rebel showcasing the sexy, sleek, subtle side of deep house and techno. The boys wowed the heaving crowd with a impeccable selection of records pitched right down into the lowers realms of the BPM range.

Downstairs in the club, finesse founder and urban superstar selector Jet C kept the floor rockin with a blend of classic R&B, garage and hiphop basslines. As the clock turned 1 the already heaving club was descended upon by the scores of people taking part in round 2 of ‘Not Your Average Barcrawl’. Showcasing the best independent venues in Leicester, the first leg of this barcrawl saw unprecidented success at the start of the academic year, as students new and old took to the streets to see a different side to the city.

Saturday night we had a private party rockin out in the club whilst all the usual Superfly Saturday madness ensued in the bar. Bryndizzle was on warm up duties providing his usual selection of party banging treats, expertly prepaired and served up with a bass heavy garnish, whilst Leicester’s first lady of House music; Clare Spooner provided the 4×4 beats all the way through till 3am.

Sunday we welcomed one of the UK’s largest retails chains to the venue as Topshop decended for their annual christmas party. Once the awards had been handed out and the food had been consumed, the drinking commenced! Jet C once again took to the decks dropping all the chart favorites, urban smashers and deep grooves everyone was hoping to hear. The party raged on till the early hours as people celebrated the start of the festive season in Superfly Style.

Setting us up nicely for the week ahead, this Thursday see’s the return of new music pioneers Underground, with another free party showcasing the latest cutting edge talent from across the electronic dance music scene. This month with hip hop headliner and Jay-Z tour DJ – MARTELO.

Saturday night we’ll be joined by house heavyweights; Just Kiddin’ / Spencer Taft and Boogie Kartel whilst Sunday see’s the 2 phat ladies return for a festive special.

You’ve got no reason to be there really?

See you all next weekend down on the Boulevard!

SUPERFLY WEEKEND ROUND UP: THE INTERLUDE 1ST BIRTHDAY!

Superfly Weekend Round-Up;

After a brief ‘Interlude’ from round ups last week due to a quiet weekend on the boulevard, it was all action stations for the final weekend of November and a very special birthday party.

Friday night kicked started the way any good weekend should, on a full belly of the best home cooked grub! As always 5pm marks the start of the party for us at Superfly HQ with ‘Free Food Friday’ providing the foundation for a long weekend of drinking ahead. If you don’t know the score by now, then shame on you!
For the ill-informed and new comers of cyberspace, it goes a little something like this…

Every Friday night from 5pm – 8pm if you come to The Interlude and buy a drink; we provide the food!
Doesn’t get much more simple than that eh?

Once everyone had filled there bellies full of chicken pieces, breaded mushrooms, onion rings and all manner of other delectable delights, Deep House warriors and lovers of the groove; Tomwa & Lee Slaney showcased the softer more subtle side of dance as duo ’115′ with an impromtu performance in the bar. The vibes were electric as people took to their mobile phones, hurridly texting and tweeting friends to join in the pop-up party.
By 10pm the bar was filled full of fresh faces, and old friends stepping in time to the sultry house sounds.

Saturday night was an all together more celebratory affair as The Interlude marked it’s first birthday with a very special late night opening. All our favourite residents were in attendance and played some storming sets all the way through till 4am, big shouts to – Sleazy Wonder, Pasquale, Tomwa, Slanedogg, Bryndizzle, Just Kiddin’ for the perfect Saturday night soundtrack of party rockin anthems, deep house vibes and body poppin’ disco.

With people queuing out of the doors trying to be apart of the action, it really was THE talked about night in town!

We even had cake!

HIDEOUT FESTIVAL CROATIA 2012

SUMMER 2012 – WE DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN.
SONiDO IN CROATIA…

Buy Tickets for: Hideout Festival 2012

INTRODUCING HIDEOUT FESTIVAL 2012

Hideout Festival Croatia made its spectacular debut this summer – a beachside event in a stunning and unique location.
The first-time event was a complete sell-out and made an outstanding entrance onto the summer festival scene. Feedback from attendees, artists and clubbing partners has been phenomenal and within days of Hideout 2011 having ended, talk of Hideout 2012 begun.

We are very excited to be currently putting the wheels in motion, preparing to bring you an exceptional Hideout 2012 and can reveal it is already set to be even more phenomenal than the last.

Bigger

Due to extreme popularity and demand, we’re thrilled to announce that capacity is being increased for next year’s event, so even more of you will be able to have the Hideout experience. We’ve added a fourth venue – in addition to Papaya, Aquarius 1 and Aquarius 2, which proved to be hugely successful venues last year, we’re now going to be adding Kalypso into the mix.

Kalypso is Zcre beaches most infamous night club, right next to the sea and surrounded by palm trees, this exotic venue is going to add a brand new, exciting dimension to Hideout 2012!

To accommodate the extra capacity, as well as having secured even more apartments in the town of Novaljia and surrounding areas – just down the road from the action and right near all the bars, pubs, restaurants and all-important beach – we’re this time around introducing the option to camp right next to the beach, with a stunning mountain back drop to the camp site.

Better

Some of your favourite DJ’s from last year will be returning – including Annie Mac, Andy C, Jamie Jones – whilst we’re also introducing some new huge acts into the mix. Absolute legends such as Ricardo Villalobos, Four Tet & Caribou, Claude Von Stroke, Skrillex, Skream and Brodinski are going to be joining the line-up next year, ensuring an even more outstanding programme than before.

We are bringing back clubbing partners Mono Cult, Jaunt, Drop the Mustard, Urban Nerds, SONIDO and Just Jack, who were hugely popular last year, and we’re ecstatic to be introducing some all-new affiliations; Mulletover and Birmingham’s Face.
Like that wasn’t enough to have your feet twitching in anticipation, we are happy to share that Hideout 2012 will be bringing you an even bigger programme…

Hideout Festival 2012 will take place across the four venues, from Friday 29th June to Sunday 1st July. However, to continue in the excitement for next year’s event, we are cranking it up several notches and will this time be hosting an entire week of events, from Tuesday 26th June right up until to the early hours of Monday 2nd July!

Plus stay alert for updates and ticket information on the secret location parties we’re going to be hosting around the island.

Hideout 2012

Not for the faint-hearted, Hideout 2012 will once again combine the stamina of a beach holiday with the intense euphoria of the most turbo charged electronic festival, and we cannot wait!

UNDERGROUND PRESENTS; MARTELO (FREE ENTRY)

After a killer party with MJ Cole last month that saw Superfly jam packed to the rafters, it’s time once again for another pioneer of British music to grace our decks, this time though for a special extravaganza that see’s some of the cities biggest names join forces to celebrate the festive season in style!

Like most people that move around a lot as a child, Martelo sees the world with wide eyes and takes influence from all aspects of life. Growing up on Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Paul Simon, his teenage years saw him delve into everything from punk and grunge to drum ‘n’ bass, garage and hip hop; an eclectic array of music that has no doubt had an influence on his music taste and DJ/production style.

“I guess I play world music, but not the snobby stuff. Hood music from the global underground.. from the favelas to the projects to the tower blocks”

In the years since then he has become known as part of the yOyO family who consistently blow the roof off any party they throw, with Martelo being an ever-present on these memorable occasions.

He has been the International Tour DJ for Santigold since 2007, as recommended by Diplo, and has played festivals all over the planet from Coachella (LA) to Summersonic (Japan) to Field Day (Aus) right back to Glastonbury (England). Last year alone he was asked to open up for Jay-Z twice and was said to be a major highlight at 2009′s Exit fetsival in Serbia. He is also part of “The End Of The World” with Toddla T and Oneman.

So join The Interlude, Superfly, Underground, DBE and Wellgosh for a very special festive celebration and night of the best free music from across the UK Underground scene.

SUPERFLY WEEKEND ROUND UP: 3RD > 6TH NOVEMBER 2011

Another weekend has come to an end here at Superfly City and that can only mean one thing! It’s time for a round-up of all the goings on you might have missed down on the Boulevard.

Thursday:
- Lee Slaney & Tomwa; Deep House Sessions.

Thursday night our very own prodigal son and international man of mystery Slanedogg rocked up at The Interlude to drop a tasty little deep house session. Supported by SONiDO head honcho Tomwa, we were treated to a delightful journey through the twists and turns of 115 BPM.
You can pick up a copy of Slaney’s mix from the evening over on his Soundcloud;

Friday:
- Lovely Ladies of the Lude!

This Friday we closed a little earlier than usual to get ready for a very special private engagement. The whole of the venue had been hired to celebrate 3 very special birthday parties. We sprinkled a little of our Superfly magic over proceedings to ensure it was a memorable occasion all round. Signature custom cocktails to celebrate the day, all manner of bright and wonderful decorations, and even a full live band left our birthday girls feeling like Christmas had come early this year.
If you’re interested in hiring out The Interlude for your own event, parties, celebrations or engagements then why not drop us a call or email, and you too could add a little fly feeling to your party!

- Telephone: 01162 078942
- Email: info@superfly-city.com

Saturday:
Superfly Presents; Bryndizzle & Claire Spooner

Bonfire night, the stars are bright, and fireworks were out in sight! Whilst everyone the country over was celebrating the failures of our man Mr Fawkes in blowing up the houses of parliament, we were celebrating a different type of blast; this time in the form of Bryndizzle and Claire Spooner blowing apart Eastern Boulevard with their own brand of house heavyweight rhythms and party hype bangers! The cocktails were flowing in plentiful supply as all our fly people partied and danced away the small hours right through till 2.30am. Rumours at Superfly HQ are circulating that Dizzle’s set from Saturday has made it to CD. So keep those eyes peeled for a giveaway later this week!

That was your Superfly round up for 4th-6th November!
Don’t forget to check us out on Facebook or at www.Superfly-City.com for information about all this coming weekend’s party prescription.

Until next time.
